The last stop of the celebrated pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago) traveled by thousands of pilgrims for 1200 years. According to tradition, the apostle St James came to the Spanish region of Galacia as a missionary. After Herod had him beheaded, his followers bore his body back for burial.
